Pentecost and Purification: Day #1

Today was the first day of a 21 day body purification. I have decided, along side the physical cleansing, to seek the Spirit to cleanse me spiritually as well. First let’s look at day one from a physical side.

Physical:
I woke up later than I wanted and decided to start the day out with a protein shake. I mixed it with strawberries, carrots, and blueberries. I also took my required 10 gastro pills ( I have to take them 3 times per day). I also have decided to run 30 minutes a day during the duration of the 21 days to help speed up the detox and for general health. Running was easier than I thought it would be, it had been a long while since I ran that long. I ended the day with a delightful meal of fresh cute veggies ( onions, cucumbers, carrots, mushrooms, broccoli) black beans, and rice. I seasoned them with a little salt and pepper and cooked them olive oil. Physically, day one was a breeze, or so I thought. I was very tired by 10 pm, so i decided to go to bed. I fell asleep around 11, but was woken up with a throbbing headache around 2 am. I have never had a migraine before and if this was not one, I do not want to experience it. I almost threw up it hurt so bad. I ended up drinking water, taking advil, and closing my eyes. I feel asleep about an hour later. I am not sure what brought it about, it may have been sugar or caffeine withdrawals.

Mental:
Mentally I have felt very tired. I tried to do some reading for a class, but I couldn’t concentrate and only read 50 of the 150 pages I wanted to read for the day. I was able to spend some good time thinking about writing and a few other things though; things I rarely find time to do. I have been told that the supplements slow you down for a few days, but after your body has Initially detoxed, everything actually performs better. So here’s to see if its true

Spiritual:
Spiritually, it was a great day. I was able to spend over an hour in my personal devotions. I have started a new book book for Pentecost called “Come, Creator Spirit” by Raniero Cantalamessa.e He takes the reader through a journey of the great hymn “Veni Creator.” The writer says, “we hope that our meditations, in this book, will serve mainly to help us to become acutely aware that the powerful wind of Pentecost is still blowing, that Jesus is still breathing on His disciples today, that the upper room is wide open to us, and that the angel is even now stirring the waters in the pool of Bethesda. Those who want to be healed have only to jump in.” During the duration of the process, I want to jump in body, soul and spirit. A welcomed surprise was while running and listening to worship music, I found the sweet presence of the Holt Spirit joining me. There is something incredibly spiritual when one intersects body, soul and spirit in worship. I hope to journal everyday and share some of the wholelistic lessons I have learned. Maybe even a recipe or two as well.

A 21 Day Cleanse: Spiritual and Physical

A friend of mine and I have decided to go on a 21 day cleansing. The basic premise is that we eat a lot of things that are very unhealthy and our body cannot digest all of it. Thus, we have toxins and other such things still in our body causing us to live lives that are more unhealthy then we have to. The cleanse consists of taking pills that will flush your system clean and eating only vegetables and fruits. I’ve been told the results are wonderful: from weight loss, to sounder sleep, and even vision getting better.
To go along side this physical cleanse, I am going to be seeking spiritual wholeness as well. I have felt the nudge of the Lord for me to fast for about a month now, and since I am out of school and things are slowing down a bit, this seems to be the Lords timing. I am going to be praying to find wholeness relationally, in my family, and grow in holiness. I am confident the Lord will meet me in a mighty way. I also find that it is no coincidence to start this the day after Pentecost Sunday. Jesus said the Spirit was sent to “cleanse” the world of sin and unrighteousness and I confident The Spirit will cleanse me physically and Spiritually.
“Veni Creator Spiritus.”

Pentecost has Truly Come

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
The day of Pentecost is the day the church was born; Christ’s body on earth. Christ said that after He left He would send the comforter to empower us to be in Christ for the world. The Spirit draws us into communion and fellowship with Christ in His worship to the Father. Through the Spirit we have been given access to Christ and the ability to live Godly in Christ Jesus. This leads to the church, Christ’s body, redeemed by His blood, reclaiming this world, in the power of the Spirit, for the Glory of the Father. The day of Pentecost in acted the renewed destiny of all of creation and invites all to join in the process. Come, Holy Spirit!

Standing Tall

TF Torrance once said that “at the cross and resurrection, Jesus Christ stood man on his feet.” Humanity had been shoved down, beaten up, and left for dead and Jesus took the shame and stood us up, so we could look Him in the eye once again. Christ restored the image that was marred and gave us access to the Father once again.
This is real to me. Christ has stood me up and I am grateful. I can see again and I am taller. Its amazing what you can see standing up when your used to seeing from the dirt. Life had shoved me down and left me for dead, but Christ came and helped me up; He gave me dignity again. In this Easter season, I am again reminded that Christ has stood me on my feet and restored His very image in my life.
Glory be to Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, now and ever shall be, world without end, amen, amen!

Mission and Meal pt2: Remembrance

“Remembrance is an act of love. God remembers us and His remembrance, His love of the foundation of the world. In Christ, we remember. We become again beings open to love, and we remember. the church in its separation from ‘this world,’ on its journey to heaven, remembers the world, remembers all men, remembers the whole creation, takes it in love to God. The Eucharist is the sacrament of cosmic remembrance: it is indeed a restoration of love as the very life of the world.” Alexander Schmemann
Remembrance leads to worship and worship leads to communion and communion leads to incarnation. Any thoughts?

Simon Peter do you love Me?

It was after breakfast and in that moment when all you want do is stay quite and drift of into a semi-sleep that Jesus began redemption in Peter’s life. I wonder if Peter hoped the Lord had forgot? Yet, Jesus would not let Peter walk with that guilt and condemnation; despite Peter’s apparent lack of initiative to start this conversation, Christ loved Him enough to take the burden from him. How often do we refuse to acknowledge the elephant in the room, and still Christ gently leads us into wholeness? Simon Peter, do you love Me? Yes, Lord, I do and its only because of You.
