Pentecost and Purification: Day #1

Today was the first day of a 21 day body purification. I have decided, along side the physical cleansing, to seek the Spirit to cleanse me spiritually as well. First let’s look at day one from a physical side.

Physical:
I woke up later than I wanted and decided to start the day out with a protein shake. I mixed it with strawberries, carrots, and blueberries. I also took my required 10 gastro pills ( I have to take them 3 times per day). I also have decided to run 30 minutes a day during the duration of the 21 days to help speed up the detox and for general health. Running was easier than I thought it would be, it had been a long while since I ran that long. I ended the day with a delightful meal of fresh cute veggies ( onions, cucumbers, carrots, mushrooms, broccoli) black beans, and rice. I seasoned them with a little salt and pepper and cooked them olive oil. Physically, day one was a breeze, or so I thought. I was very tired by 10 pm, so i decided to go to bed. I fell asleep around 11, but was woken up with a throbbing headache around 2 am. I have never had a migraine before and if this was not one, I do not want to experience it. I almost threw up it hurt so bad. I ended up drinking water, taking advil, and closing my eyes. I feel asleep about an hour later. I am not sure what brought it about, it may have been sugar or caffeine withdrawals.

Mental:
Mentally I have felt very tired. I tried to do some reading for a class, but I couldn’t concentrate and only read 50 of the 150 pages I wanted to read for the day. I was able to spend some good time thinking about writing and a few other things though; things I rarely find time to do. I have been told that the supplements slow you down for a few days, but after your body has Initially detoxed, everything actually performs better. So here’s to see if its true

Spiritual:
Spiritually, it was a great day. I was able to spend over an hour in my personal devotions. I have started a new book book for Pentecost called “Come, Creator Spirit” by Raniero Cantalamessa.e He takes the reader through a journey of the great hymn “Veni Creator.” The writer says, “we hope that our meditations, in this book, will serve mainly to help us to become acutely aware that the powerful wind of Pentecost is still blowing, that Jesus is still breathing on His disciples today, that the upper room is wide open to us, and that the angel is even now stirring the waters in the pool of Bethesda. Those who want to be healed have only to jump in.” During the duration of the process, I want to jump in body, soul and spirit. A welcomed surprise was while running and listening to worship music, I found the sweet presence of the Holt Spirit joining me. There is something incredibly spiritual when one intersects body, soul and spirit in worship. I hope to journal everyday and share some of the wholelistic lessons I have learned. Maybe even a recipe or two as well.

Pentecost has Truly Come

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
The day of Pentecost is the day the church was born; Christ’s body on earth. Christ said that after He left He would send the comforter to empower us to be in Christ for the world. The Spirit draws us into communion and fellowship with Christ in His worship to the Father. Through the Spirit we have been given access to Christ and the ability to live Godly in Christ Jesus. This leads to the church, Christ’s body, redeemed by His blood, reclaiming this world, in the power of the Spirit, for the Glory of the Father. The day of Pentecost in acted the renewed destiny of all of creation and invites all to join in the process. Come, Holy Spirit!

Cause a friends a friend forever.

I got back from a walk a few minutes ago and while walking I was struck with the fact that I have some great friends. I was also struck with the fact that some of those great friends are leaving soon. It excited me because I know they are walking the path Christ has set before them, yet saddened me because I cant walk that path with them any longer. It reminds me of Emmaus. Jesus didn’t walk with the disciples forever, only a season; a season that drastically changed their lives, but a season none the less. Some people come into our lives for seasons and I think God brings them into our lives to walk with us for two reasons. First, because they have something to teach us and we have something to teach them. Second, I think it reminds us to anticipate the day when we will all live together in perfect community, enjoying God’s new world. A friend is a friend forever living in that reality.

This is reality, You are coming to reign on the earth, and the increase of Your government will know no end!
